Year end is a great time for making sure all your i’s are dotted and your t’s are crossed when it comes to your website business. The list below outlines 5 important tasks that will help keep your website and your website business on track next year.

1. Change the Copyright Year on Your Site’s Footer

When I see a copyright date on a website that says something like “Copyright 2003. All Rights Reserved”, two thoughts go through my mind.

This is an abandoned website. The webmaster hasn’t touched this thing in 8 years.

Is this a site a diamond in the rough? Can I buy it cheap, improve it, and sell it quickly? If the site was ever monetized (unlikely), there are likely some opportunities with new website monetization strategies to get this thing profitable in a hurry.

Do you want to leave the impression that your site is neglected? It’s time to edit the code of your site and make sure the date is dynamically inserted, such as with the PHP Date function, rather than manually added in the footer of each page.

2. Review Your Top Landing Pages for Out of Date Information

Log into your Google Analytics or other web statistics program and find your “top content” or “top landing pages”. Read each one of these pages and make sure all the information will continue to be up to date next year. If not, it’s time to do some rewriting.

3.) Search Your Site for Mentions of the Current Year

A simple Google search can help you identify pages which might be out of date. Utilize a command such as “site:yourdomain.com 2011″ to quickly find pages which could be out of date due to mentioning the current or previous years.

4.) Change Your Passwords

When was the last time you changed your hosting control panel password? If you don’t already have a scheduled frequency that you change your password, at least make year-end your time to do this important task. It can help prevent security problems due to account hacking or simply sharing passwords with outsourced teams who no longer work with you. Here’s a basic list of passwords you should consider changing

Hosting Control Panel Password

FTP Passwords

Email Passwords

Domain Registration Passwords

MySQL Passwords

Revenue Account Passwords Such as Adsense

3rd Party Tool Passwords Such as Email Marketing or SEO Tools

WordPress User Passwords

5.) Backup Everything

If you’ve been online for any period of time and you haven’t had a hard drive fail, an account get hacked, or a programmer seriously mess up your site, consider yourself lucky. However, it’s only a matter of time before something like this happens. Even the savviest people will run into a case where they need to get a backup of their data. If you don’t have at least two copies of your data in different locations, ask yourself if you would be okay with losing it forever. Here’s a quick list of items I recommend backing up.

Website Files

MySQL Data

Email Data

Customer Lists

Email Lists

Transaction Logs

Your Computer

Remember to never rely on your providers (hosting, email marketing, etc.) to back up your data for you. Get a copy of your data and have it backed up at a separate physical location from where it’s stored.

Here’s to a Smooth Next Year

I recommend taking care of these little but important tasks before the end of the year rather than after. This will allow you to focus your renewed energy in the new year on your biggest opportunities. A little preparation now can help you have peace of mind later and save you headaches next year.

Here’s to your most successful year yet!

I love learning, and that’s why I love the sites below. These are the websites where I always find great value — the sites that have helped me to develop a sharper business mind and learn stuff that actually helped me make more money online. I love them and I know you will too.

IncomeDiary.com (Michael Dunlop)

I’ve learned an insane amount by being an Income Diary reader and subscribing to Michael’s email list. In fact, I’ve tried to model my own email practices after his (and another guy on this list) — providing LOTS of value in the messages that get sent out. Michael’s site provides tons of value too, as he shares his own experiences as a six-figure online marketer and also interviews a bunch of other successful people.

I love seeing the stories of other people who are achieving success in their specific niche, learning what strategies and tactics they are employing to grow their businesses.

Here are a few of the posts I’ve really enjoyed from Income Diary:

11 things that made me money in the last 12 months

Selling your own product online – 6 easy steps to 6 figures

10 reasons why you’re not making any money online yet

Flip Filter’s Blog

To say that Justin from Flip Filter is a smart guy would be a crazy understatement. He sees the story behind statistics and turns data into actionable advice that helps people make money with their website flips. His product (Flip Filter) is an amazing resource, but so is his free blog, which should be considered mandatory reading for anyone interested in buying and selling websites.

Get a taste of his brilliance by reading these great posts (honestly, I could have linked to anything he’s written):

Anatomy of a $20k per month seller

Why your AdSense sites could be leaving money on the table

Achieving quantum growth: trading up and knowing when to sell

Smart Passive Income with Pat Flynn

If the income’s passive, Pat’s probably got his hand in it (or is figuring out how to)… and he’s not shy about sharing. Pat’s blog has a real strong “learn with me” vibe, as he endeavors to make money online. He’s already won big with his own product, iPhone app development, and a niche site monetized with AdSense.

Pat releases monthly income reports that detail exactly where his earnings come from, and it’s definitely eye opening to see the explosive growth he’s experienced. If you’re new to Smart Passive Income, I highly recommend starting out with Pat’s niche site duel series.

Pat also publishes an excellent podcast — my preferred form of entertainment while driving to and from Philadelphia for my monthly SEO meetups.

Halo18.com

This one’s a newcomer that I’m sure you haven’t heard of, and I’ve learned more from the guy behind this blog in person than online, but his newly-launched site already has some great articles for people looking to start making money online. Keyword research, affiliate marketing, SEO — this dude’s a pro at them all and I know the content he provides in the future is all going to be first rate.

There’s no fluff here, either. If a new post gets added, you know it will be worth reading. Here are a few excellent posts to start with:

Thoughts on AdSense

SEO Keyword Research

Experienced-People.net

There’s no better-run forum on the planet. E-P has some of the smartest people you’ll run into with an interest in online business and they are VERY generous with their knowledge and expertise. Other forums are more active, but none have a better signal to noise ratio. Every time I go there, I get smarter. You will too. Check it out.

Bonus: Flippa

No, not their blog — the actual website sales marketplace. There’s so much insight you can gain about monetization methods, traffic building techniques, niche selection, copywriting, and more just by looking at the information provided in their listings. People open up the records to their online businesses in an effort to sell them, and all that information just sits there, waiting for us to learn from it.

If you’re serious about doing business online and you’re not poking around in Flippa’s archive, you’re missing out.

Google algorithm changes are always a big deal to people who make money online — a change in the criteria Google uses to rank sites could result in a huge financial loss for website owners.

At the end of February, Google rolled out what’s being referred to as the “Farmer Update” where they set out to limit the impact content farms have in the search rankings. As most of you know, I use sites that could be labeled as “content farms” as part of my backlinking strategy, and I’ve been pretty successful with that approach.

Since I’ve been pretty transparent about how I rank niche sites, I’ve gotten a lot of emails asking about the impact of this algorithm change on my sites. There’s a TON of misinformation out right now about what this change means for people building niche sites, so I’ll try to clear the air a bit here.

What Are Content Farms?

First, some really quick background: Content farms are sites that accept user generated content (UGC) — some pay for it, others (like Ezine Articles) get their content for free, using a backlink from their authority domain as enticement for submissions. The articles they receive are almost always keyword-rich, usually targeting longtail phrases.

These sites have a lot of links already pointing to their domain and to subpages of the site (usually added by the authors who publish articles on their sites). They also have a TON of content that has no external links pointing to it. This is a big deal.

Why Links Matter

Google relies heavily on links to rank content in its SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). Links are basically votes — indicating that the source providing the link thinks the site they are linking to is good. You need links from other sites in order to rank for anything even remotely competitive.

Eventually, these links to a domain pile up and Google starts to consider the domain a trusted authority. At that point, they stop saying, “Other people have told us this piece of content is good, so we’ll rank it accordingly,” and start saying, “So many people have vouched for content across your site, we’re going to start taking your word for it that your content is about what you say it’s about… and that it’s good. Enjoy all the longtail traffic you can handle.”

For some sites that makes sense — sites that are true authorities in their field. For user generated content sites, it’s a dangerous proposition. The content farms started flooding the search results for low-competition terms and the quality of Google’s search results suffered. Google lives and dies by its search quality — if people start having a bad search experience, they could lose search marketshare. That’s why they had to implement this fix.

You Can’t Vote for Yourself Anymore

What Google has done is ratchet back the domain authority for a lot of these sites. They basically said, “We can’t really trust you to tell us what your own content is about and whether or not its good. If enough people tell us your content is good, we’ll rank it… and we’ll probably leverage your domain authority then.”

An article on Ezine with 10 backlinks to it is still going to outrank an article on my family website with the same 10 links. But an article on Ezine with 0 links is much less likely to outrank the same article on my family website with 10 links pointing to it. Google is demanding validation for UGC.

But What About the Juice?

A lot of you might be thinking, “Crap. I used Ezine in the past to rank sites… now I’m screwed.” I know a lot of people are thinking that because I’ve received a ton of emails basically stating as much. I’ve read a lot of articles on other sites saying bum marketing (article marketing, blog commenting, etc) is dead. Couldn’t be more wrong.

Just because Google has decided to send less traffic to content farms doesn’t mean that they have devalued the links on those sites… in fact, they haven’t. Sites that I have that received the vast majority of their links from article marketing have been completely unaffected by the algorithm change. And I’m far from the only one — I’ve talked with a bunch of other folks in the IM space and their situation is the same.

UGC sites still pass juice. If you’ve been using article marketing to rank in the past, you can still do so now. Don’t go back the drawing board.

…and Maybe Content Farms Aren’t Getting Hit So Hard

Still don’t believe me that you can still rank with article marketing? Prepare to have your mind blown, because Google’s still sending TONS of traffic to content farms that have minimal domain authority, unimpressive link profiles, and lots of duplicate content. How do I know? Because I launched my own.

Back at the end of January, I picked up an expiring domain and put an article directory script up. I then added a plugin from a popular link-building platform to accept article submissions from them. Here’s a look at the traffic pattern since then:

Yeah, that’s almost 40,000 visits — starting with only 37 visits on February 1 and ending with 4,379 visits on March 14. During that time I built a total of 0 backlinks. I didn’t even log in to the site. And lest you think the traffic was obtained through social media, ppv, or some other shady method, here’s a breakdown of the traffic percentages. You can clearly see the site is living off of organic traffic.

What’s It All Mean?

The sky isn’t falling. Google didn’t burn the SEO handbook. What worked last month will still work today. Just get out there and build links, make your sites more valuable, and cash in (either as long-term holdings, which I’m doing more of now or as quick flips).

It’s often said that on the internet, content is king. I call BS. Links are king, and content is queen. A site with enough link equity can rank for competitive terms, even with pretty awful content — just look at Yahoo Answers. A site with well-placed links on heavily trafficked sites doesn’t even NEED search traffic — it gets flooded with referrals. He who has the most (and best quality) links wins.

The importance of a strong link profile is one of the reasons I decided to buy an aged domain (with high PR). Buying an existing website means you get to start with momentum — you don’t have to overcome the inertia of a brand new domain. You inherit goodwill from the search engines and any existing referral traffic. It also provides enhanced leverage when you start to implement some link-building strategies.

Two Types of Links

Link building can be broken down into 2 main categories: link placement and link enticement. With link placement, you are actively adding links back to your own website. Examples of link placement include:

Article directories

Link directories

Blog comments

Other sites you own

Social bookmarking sites

User generated content sites (Squidoo, Hubpages, etc).

Guest posts on other sites

Most of these tactics are low value, so I either ignored them or did the absolute minimum necessary to get by (a few key directory submissions). The higher-value exceptions, as I see them, are guest posting and blog commenting (when done right).

Blog Commenting for SEO

I identified a few key blogs in my niche that were either dofollow (their links pass a search benefit) or they had the top commentators plugin installed (with dofollow on the top commentator list). You can easily identify these types of sites in your niche by searching for terms like:

parenting “top commentators”

I made sure to comment frequently on these sites, so that I would get a followed site-wide link. If you employ this link-building strategy, you must offer value with your comments. The last thing you want is to be seen as a comment spammer.

Blog Commenting for Traffic

I also targeted some related blogs to try to pull traffic. My thought process was that by adding insightful comments to other sites, readers may be interested in seeing what I have to say on my own blog. More importantly, by contributing valuable content as comments to other blogs, those blog owners might decide to link back to me — either in their blogroll or in an upcoming post. The key to this tactic is to leave really great comments.

This is a relationship building technique that can pay big dividends. In my case, it was a contributing factor to getting invited to a blog network that became a good source of inbound links and traffic.

Guest Posting

Guest posting is the best form of link placement there is — you get a quality one-way link in the body of an article that you create. You know the content is good and relevant to your topic. You know the blog you post on has a strong link profile and gets traffic. When done well, it’s a positive both for SEO and traffic generation, as you introduce your website to a whole new audience.

Guest posting also can form the initial basis for an on-going relationship with a partner site. If you guest post a few times at a large site, you may find yourself linked to more frequently in round-ups, referenced in another post, or included in a blogroll.

The challenge with guest posting is that you have to make sure your site is setup well to receive this influx of new visitors. I didn’t start guest posting immediately when launching Better Parenting because I didn’t want new visitors to arrive at a largely blank site. After publishing around 60 articles, I felt that the site was getting sufficiently impressive that new users might decide to stick around (bookmark the site, subscribe to RSS, etc).

This is when I started to make a target list of sites on which to guest post. I decided to sell Better Parenting before getting aggressive about guest posting (the site had enough other stuff going well for it to sell for a decent sum), but this strategy would have generated a significant amount of additional traffic.

Link Exchange (Enhanced)

Link exchanges have been around since the start of the internet — you link to me and I’ll link back. While the SEO benefit has been minimized over time, and the value of these links is less than one-way links, exchanges with like-minded sites can still prove helpful.

I did a few standard link exchanges, but those were insignificant compared to what I call an enhanced link exchange — a blog network or affiliation.

To a lot of people “blog network” implies combined advertising and shared revenue. That’s not the kind of network, I’m talking about. I’m referencing a looser affiliation of sites, where you agree to promote each others best work.

I hooked up with a few other blogs in related fields (marriage, finances, lifestyle tips, and a mom blogger). We all added each other to our blogrolls and once a week we highlighted the top post on each site throughout the network. This allowed us all to build deep links — links that point to interior pages, not just the home page. It also enabled traffic sharing: visitors of one site became readers of several.

We also assisted each other with social bookmarking on posts that we thought could go viral. The bottom line is that it helps to have friends online… and you don’t need to do much more than ask to make it happen.

Other Ways to Build Links

In the next article, I’ll delve into link enticement, which yielded a great return for me in my website launch. Until then, I’d love to hear from you — what other link placement techniques have you successfully utilized. How have you been able to streamline the often tedious process of placing links?

With the right keyword research, finding free organic traffic is a snap. Learn how I spot the "low hanging fruit."

This is the fourth article in a series highlighting the steps I took to turn a $300 initial investment into a $10,000 website sale in under 3 months, spending just a few minutes per day. In the first 3 articles, we covered buying aged domains, outsourcing web design and writing, and making the site sticky. In this article, I’ll share how I pursued organic search traffic – particularly identifying high volume, low competition search terms.

Organic search traffic (not paid) is the lifeblood of most successful websites. It provides the best kind of traffic (highly targeted visitors) at the most ideal price (free). When you flip a website, organic traffic is highly valued because it is sustainable and predictable. I knew that in order for Better Parenting to succeed as a flip, it would have to show the promise of serious search traffic.

Identifying Search Terms

There are some great keyword research tools that are available for purchase, but I still do a ton of my keyword research for free. I frequently find myself using the Google AdWords Keyword Tool, instead of paid services, as my starting point for keyword research. From the GAKT page, I started out doing a search for my generic term: “parenting.”

Now if you just hit search, you end up with the broad match figures, so all the traffic numbers will be skewed toward the more generic search terms (“parenting” will show all traffic for that specific term, plus “parenting tips” and “parenting advice” etc). Instead, I change the “broad match” to “exact match,” so I can get a better feel for traffic to the long-tail search terms.

Even though I bought an aged domain with a decent link profile, I didn’t have the same ability to pull rankings as major sites in my niche (like parenting.com). Knowing this (especially if you’re launching on a brand new domain), I’m looking for low competition terms — stuff I can rank for quickly and get traffic to my site, allowing me to sell sooner. So let’s take a look at a few of the results the Google has generated for me:

I sorted my list by “Local Monthly Searches,” and a little bit down the list, I spotted some terms that I think would make good articles — “potty training tips” and “sibling rivalry.” I can see that these terms both provide around 3,600 monthly searches in the United States, but the advertiser competition for them is very different. Potty training tips is highly targeted, whereas sibling rivalry is not (note the green and red arrows in that column). A little higher up the list (not on the screen shot) is the term “parenting styles,” which gets 4,400 local monthly searches and indicates low advertiser competition. This looked like a good term that was easy to target, but I had to check the organic search results to verify that the organic search competition was also low.

I did this by using some of Google’s advanced search operators – allintitle, allinanchor, and allinurl. These queries reveal how many sites on the web are aggressively targeting these terms. Running a search for allintitle:”parenting styles” reveals only 4,720 sites that have the EXACT phrase “parenting styles” in a page title.

I also ran the allinanurl and allinanchor queries for this term, revealing a fairly low number of sites using “parenting styles” in the url of the site. The anchor text usage was considerably higher, however.

If a term has under 10,000 results for allintitle and allinurl, and under 100,000 for allinanchor, it’s probably a term that you can target and get traffic. This one didn’t quite fit the bill, but it was close enough to consider as a medium-term target. Still, I was intent on finding lower-competition terms that would still yield good traffic. Back to the Google AdWords Keyword Tool.

A quick note on how GAKT works — when displaying the keyword ideas, Google will do its best to identify additional terms that are related to your query and include those results. If you don’t want that, and instead want to see only the results for the keyword ideas you entered, click “Advanced Options” and then select the radio button for “ideas containing my search terms.”

When I considered targeting “parenting quotes” as a term, this was a helpful way to view the results, since I could easily see other closely related terms to target:

With over 1,000 monthly searches (43 per day) and no advertiser competition, parenting quotes looked like the ideal target. Google’s advanced query searches confirmed the hunch:

Finding a term with competition like this is like hitting the organic search jackpot. Within a week of posting the article targeting this term, it was in the top 10, and it has continued to climb since (after I sold the site, the new owner did very little link building to this article, so it’s almost entirely based on domain strength and keyword relevance).

I identified a bunch of additional short-term and medium-term phrases to target and set off writing articles that used the phrases in their titles and url structure. I made sure to link to them internally (and from an external site of my own) using the appropriate anchor text, and the search traffic started to roll in.

Competitive Keyword Research

The Google AdWords Keyword Tool also allows you to generate search terms based on a website url. Just enter your competitors website and Google will provide you with a bunch of additional terms to target.

Next Steps

I’ve left out the obvious in this article, which is to write SEO-friendly articles (use your keywords in your articles) because I think it’s simple enough to not require an in-depth explanation. On-page optimization is only one part of the puzzle, however. In the next article, I’ll talk a bit about link building, both from a search perspective and as a source of traffic in its own right.

We’ve already tackled buying old domains with PageRank and outsourcing web design and writing in the first two articles in this series. The steps taken in those articles set the foundation for the success of Better Parenting, but people don’t pay top dollar for attractive sites with fresh content that have no visitors.

In this article, we’ll cover some of the strategies for how to get traffic to your website that I implemented in this launch. Now, before I get into bringing the visitors to the site, there was one major thing I absolutely needed to take care of first:

Make Your Site Sticky

If you’re going to make a serious effort to drive traffic to your site, you first need to make sure you’ve done everything you can on your site to make visitors want to stay (and come back frequently). It’s hard enough to get that initial stream of traffic flowing — you don’t want to have to work hard to get that same user to come back later.

Knowing that, I made sure Better Parenting did all of the following before aggressively pursuing more traffic:

Published at least 1 article every single day
The more quality content you have, the more likely someone will delve deeper into your site and find enough value to remember your site, bookmark it or subscribe to RSS / email updates. More content also means more opportunities for search traffic (particularly long-tail phrases).

Prominently featured my RSS feed and email newsletter signup
Being able to reach out and touch previous visitors is HUGE. You can instantly call up a flood of traffic to your site by sending out an update. It also helps to keep your site “top of mind.” A lot of people may visit the site and love it, but just forget about it. If you can put a few reminders in front of them early on, they’re more likely to come back regularly on their own.

Tried to engage my audience
If your readers feel like they have some ownership of the conversation, they are much more likely to come back. I encouraged friends, family, and acquaintances to comment on articles for me. I also ran a “Comments Count” contest, where I gave away a $50 gift card to a random commenter (and gave bonus entries for RSS subscription, email newsletter signup, and Twitter following). It’s important to make sure you communicate back, too. Try to respond to all comments — let your visitors know you appreciate their contribution. I ended up with some commenters at Better Parenting who provided great insight, augmenting the information I supplied in the initial article.

Interlinked my posts
You see me doing it here on Flip Websites. I’ve created a series of articles that start out by linking back to any previous articles in the series and end by linking to the next articles (once they’re written). Make it easy on your visitors to take that next step, get that next piece of information. If you link with good anchor text, you’ll also be helping to rank your site for the search terms you’re after.

Gave readers something to do at the end of an article
Ask them to subscribe to your RSS feed or email newsletter, show a listing of other popular posts, ask them a question that they should answer in the comments. Don’t let them hit the end of the article and look for their back button or address bar — provide the next step for them.

Wrote for the web
I almost forgot to even mention this one because it’s become second nature for me, but this is WAY too important to skip over. People read websites differently than they read books. Keep your articles relatively short, but more importantly keep your paragraphs short, use bulleted lists, and create subheadings in your articles. Make your posts scan-able and easy to read. Look at any post I write in this series and you’ll see lots of subheadings and lists.

If your site is “sticky,” then your traffic-building efforts will be even more valuable. These simple steps provide a multiplier effect on everything else that you do.

How to Get Traffic to Your Website

There’s no magic bullet for getting traffic to your website (at least not real, stable traffic), but if you bought an aged PR domain with a decent link profile like I did (see the first article) then you’ll have a head start.

Traffic can be broken down into a few simple categories:

Organic search traffic

Paid traffic (cpc)

Referral traffic

Social media traffic

Direct type-in traffic

Repeat visitors

We already took care of repeat visitors by making the site sticky, and direct type-in is directly tied to the quality of your domain name and its brandability. We can’t do much about that now. Unless you’re selling a product, paid traffic won’t be too helpful for a flip. You may consider using it to get that initial influx necessary to get off the ground, but if you do, you absolutely MUST do everything you can to capture that visitor’s information. You need a compelling offer to get them on your email list so that it’s not a once-and-done visit situation. I generally steer clear of paid traffic for sites I’m flipping (I didn’t run ANY cpc for Better Parenting) and highly recommend the same for you.

That leaves us with organic search, referral, and social media. We’ll tackle them in that order. The next article in this series covers keyword research and SEO. Then we’ll move into link-building for traffic (and online relationship building), and finally I’ll give you some really sneaky tactics for enhancing your social media presence.

The following article marketing tips probably aren’t considered any kind of new article marketing strategy for advanced marketers, but they might be a good reminder nonetheless. One of the quickest and easiest ways to drive traffic to the websites you’re building or buying as a site flipper, is to write and distribute articles. It has been the secret to my success since I started with this online stuff back in 2005.

There are entire ebooks written on this subject so by no means do the following article marketing tips cover everything. As the title of this article suggests, I’m only covering the absolute basics here. If you are new to article marketing, then these are the bare minimum steps you’ll want to take. I’ll be covering more advanced techniques and article marketing strategies in future articles. So let’s get on with it, shall we?

Here is a mind map of this article marketing strategy:

Tip #1: Write a High Quality, Original Article for Your Website

Write an original 400-500 word article for your website – making sure to optimize it for your primary keyword – or have someone else write it. If you outsource it, expect to pay at least $5 and possibly as much as $10. Since this article will be the foundation of more articles to follow and since this is your website and your reputation is on the line, make sure it is a well-written, quality article. Don’t take the easy way out here or go cheap. There is no excuse for junk!

After you have published the article on your website, you’ll then want to ping your websites’ RSS feed. But before you ping the feed, make sure you have submitted the feed to all the major RSS directories. If you have WordPress, this will be done for you automatically – another reason (of MANY) why you should be using WordPress! Hint. Hint.

Tip #2: Rewrite the Original Article & Submit to EzineArticles.com

Once you have the original article for our website completed, you’ll want to rewrite it again or hire someone else to do it for you. You’ll pay around $5 for a rewrite. It has to be a totally unique article from the original. This should also be a high quality, well-written article that is optimized for your primary keyword! You’ll also want to write a compelling author’s resource box with two backlinks to your site. One of the backlinks should point to your main domain and one should point to the original article.

You’ll then submit the rewrite to EzineArticles.com. Once you have at least one article published on EzineArticles, you’ll have your own author’s RSS feed. Like your website’s RSS feed, you’ll want to submit this feed to all the major RSS directories. Then each time your articles are approved on EzineArticles, you’ll ping your author’s feed.

Tip #3: Submit Your EzineArticles Article to Other Major Article Directories

AFTER EzineArticles has approved your article, then you can submit that same article to the other major article directories. I’ve listed the major article directories I recommend below. Please note that some of these directories are using the no follow tag which means you won’t get any backlink love. You should still submit to them, however, because my experience has shown that you can get decent direct traffic from these directories because articles from these directories tend to rank well.

No Follow Article Directories:
Buzzle.com
ArticleBase.com
ArticleAlley.com
ArticlesFactory.com

Do Follow Article Directories:
GoArticles.com
ArticleDashboard.com
Helium.com
ArticleCity.com
CarolinaArticles.com
A1Articles.com
ArticleBiz.com
Site-Reference.com (for Internet Marketing topics only)

One More Article Marketing Tip – Going Beyond the Basics

Tip #4: Rewrite Your Ezine Articles Article and Submit it to the Other Article Directories

I’ll be covering more advanced article marketing tips in future articles, but suffice to say, there is one thing you can do beyond the basics outlined above to give you an edge over your competitors. One simple article marketing strategy that has worked well for me is to rewrite the original article one more time. I know it’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it in the end.

This rewrite doesn’t have to be a Pulitzer like the ones on your website and EzineArticles should be, but it should still be readable. You’ll then submit this rewrite to the other article directories mentioned above instead of just submitting your EzineArticles version. This will give you more unique content on the Net and will give you a better chance of having your articles indexed in the search engines.
