Website Flipping Market Snapshot: 8-22-10

The data for the Most Actives, Top Sellers, Top Selling Niches, and Most Active Site Flippers is based on the market activity at Flippa.com. As the largest and most popular marketplace for site flippers right now, the market activity there provides valuable insight on what people are buying and selling.

MOST ACTIVES

www.Tuna-Fishing.org – 63 Bids
SOLD: $18,500

Established: March 2009
Unique Visitors/Month: 3,500
Net Profit/Month: $1,237
Description: Website selling a tuna fishing ebook.

Comments: Who knew you could make so much money selling an ebook on tuna fishing? This is one of the most impressive websites I’ve seen for sale in a while on Flippa. There is a lot to learn from this auction – both on how to build a successful business and how to effectively list that business for sale. I’m not surprised at all that this was the most active auction! Take notes on what this seller did do dominate his niche and how he put together a near-perfect auction listing. See auction here.

www.CoolFonts.info – 58 Bids
SOLD: $1,705

Established: July 2006
Unique Visitors/Month: 12,500
Net Profit/Month: None claimed.
Description: Site offering free downloads of fonts.

Comments: Don’t ever build a website on an .info domain, the experts say! While I generally agree with that rule, there are always exceptions. Every now and then you’ll see an .info website that does very well and this is an example of that. This was an established website with solid traffic and no revenue. In many cases, these are the best websites to buy – ones that have lots of traffic but haven’t been monetized yet. If this would have been earning money, it would have had more bids and would have sold for a lot more (obviously). See auction here.

www.AttorneyInImmigration.com – 44 Bids
SOLD: $810

Established: May 2010
Unique Visitors/Month: 3,000
Net Profit/Month: $30
Description: Legal site on immigration monetized by AdSense.

Comments: I don’t like lawyers or the legal profession so this auction turned me off the minute I saw it posted BUT legal niches can be lucrative. Given the subject of this website (immigration to the U.S.), an idea popped into my head. Given that most immigrants to the U.S. are from Mexico, what if you turned this entire site into a Spanish site – or at the very least offered a Spanish version? You could then work with attorney’s that specialize in immigration and turn it into a lead generator. Hmmm…maybe I should have bought this one?? See auction here.

TOP SELLERS

www.eSampleResume.com – $76,000
BIDS: 28

Established: November 2007
Unique Visitors/Month: 62,869
Net Profit/Month: $4,902
Description: Resume site monetized by AdSense.

Comments: Unlike the top sellers the past couple weeks, I’m certain this auction is legit. With 28 bids, several comments, and a sale price of $76,000, I’d say this one was real. This was a great website for sale. You had an established website that ranked very well for the primary keywords in its niche. And talk about revenue – a solid $4,000+ per month AdSense site! I think I better revist my copy of the Adsense Report and consider building some AdSense sites. There is one thing else I need to say about this auction, however, buyers can be so stupid sometimes. Read the comments left on this guy’s auction. People keep asking the same questions over and over again – and some of the questions they ask just make you laugh. See auction here.

www.SeniorPictures.com – $50,000
BIDS: 25

Established: March 1999
Unique Visitors/Month: 17,134
Net Profit/Month: None claimed.
Description: Directory for portrait photographers specialized in high school senior portraits.

Comments: Wow – that was the first word that came out of my mouth when I saw this auction. I said “wow” for a few reasons. First, this guy bought the site for $17,000 back in February 2010. He grossed $33,000 on this flip in just 6 months! Second, what a great premium AGED domain. Third, the concept of this website had my head spinning with ideas. How hard would it be to create a similar directory for another line of photographers? What about wedding photographers, as just one idea? This is another auction you’ll want to look at to study what this guy did to create such a successful directory. See auction here.

www.YourCNATrainingGuide.com – $42,800
BIDS: 27

Established: November 2009
Unique Visitors/Month: 5,175
Net Profit/Month: $3,110
Description: Certified Nursing Assistant training information site monetized by AdSense.

Comments: That’s it, I’m going to start building AdSense sites. This is crazy. Yet another AdSense site that not only generated a solid monthly income ($3,000+ per month), but it sold for a pretty penny at auction too. I’ve been meaning to build an AdSense site following the steps outlined in Cary’s AdSense Report but I keep putting it off. Not anymore! This site had all the elements of a top seller – an established SEO website in an obviously lucrative niche, that was getting solid traffic and revenue. See auction here.

TYPES OF WEBSITES MOST WATCHED BY BUYERS

This metric provides a lot of insight on the website flipping market. These are the types of websites that buyers are watching. In other words, these are the types of websites that buyers are interested in buying today. As a potential seller, this is great information because if your website falls into any of these categories, be sure to tag them as such when you list them. And if you’re a short-term flipper, these are the types of websites you should be building for sale.

AdSense: 59 buyers watching

Ecommerce: 55 buyers watching

WordPress: 53 buyers watching

Here are some good tips on how to save money on Car insurance

    i) Raise your Deductible – This is the amount you pay out of your own pocket before the car insurance company pays anything. As an example, raising your deductible from $100 to $500 will reduce your monthly car insurance premiums by 10% to 20%. This will also make you a more responsible driver knowing a lot of your own money is at stake; and over the long term, you will maintain a better driving record versus if you have no responsibility.

ii) Drop Collision & Comprehensive Coverage – If you have an older car, this makes sense. If your car is old & not worth much, why pay high premiums if you are going to replace it anyways if it gets in to an accident.

iii) Comparison Shop – Do not assume that all insurance companies charge the same rate. Search for the best insurance rates from multiple companies. Be sure to check out the rates at Tesco Car Insurance.

iv) Drive Safely – Do not speed, take unnecessary risks when driving & always maintain a safe driving distance from other cars. Accidents can greatly increase your car insurance premiums so be careful.

    v) Avoid traffic tickets – From point iv) do not speed because you risk getting traffic tickets which would ultimately increase your car insurance premiums over a period of 3 years.

vi) Have a Good Credit Score – Insurance companies will use your credit score to qualify you for even more car insurance discounts & your risk level.

vii) Shop for Insurance before you buy a car – If you plan to buy a sports car, be prepared to pay a higher car insurance premiums than regular cars. Cars that are expensive to repair or heavy targets for thieves have higher insurance premiums.
