MOST ACTIVES
www.LayoutTechniques.com – 57 Bids
SOLD: $1,800
Established: N/A
Unique Visitors/Month: 1,300
Net Profit/Month: $1,000
Description: Turnkey and templates website monetized by affiliate income.
Comments: While the concept of this website isn’t new, I still like it because it’s highly effective. The concept is you give your visitors something they want for free and then you try to upsell them from the free product to a paid product – AFTER you’ve earned their trust. The seller sold turnkey/template websites on eBay for next to nothing – literally selling them for around a $1. Then he’d try to upsell them by offering them hosting. Obviously if someone is buying a website they need hosting! He then got paid as an affiliate by signing people up for hosting accounts. Not every customer signed up for hosting but most did. Everyone wins – the customer gets a website and hosting and the seller made decent money in the process. See auction here.
www.SEOEqualizer.com – 55 Bids
SOLD: $8,001
Established: December 2004
Unique Visitors/Month: 3,074
Net Profit/Month: $832
Description: ClickBank site selling a software package of SEO tools.
Comments: Everybody likes ClickBank products! Here we have an established ClickBank business that generated a lot of bids and sold for just over $8,000. What I love the most about this auction, however, is how it was brokered. It was brokered by “Abisko” – a prolific seller on Flippa. This guy wrote the book (literally) on how to get more for your websites when you sell them. This auction also is a perfect demonstration of the gray hat strategy I wrote about last week. See auction here.
www.110Football.com – 33 Bids
SOLD: $1,500
Established: June 2000
Unique Visitors/Month: 7,920
Net Profit/Month: $332
Description: Network of 4 WordPress autoblogs earning AdSense and affiliate income.
Comments: What is it with autoblogs? They continue to be hot, but don’t people realize that you can’t build a long-term business on autoblogs? Sure they have their place but I just hope newbies aren’t snatching these up thinking all they have to do is sit back and enjoy the monthly income. It doesn’t work that way! Having said, this network of autoblogs was bringing in decent income – at least for the time being. See auction here.
TOP SELLERS
www.FansAndInvites.com – $75,000
BIDS: 1
Established: July 2010
Unique Visitors/Month: 3,800
Net Profit/Month: $0
Description: Business that helps promote Facebook fan pages and develops welcome tabs.
Comments: There have been a handful of top selling (and most active) auctions the past few months for websites that sell Facebook fans or Twitter followers. Social media is huge and continues to grow so more and more individuals and businesses are looking for ways to increase their “social presence” online. Any websites that provide a way to get more LEGIT Facebook fans or Twitter followers will do well.
What I found the most interesting about this auction, however, was how the seller managed the auction. Instead of laying everything out in the open publicly as most sellers do, the seller only shared the typical screenshots, analytics, etc. via private messages. He also would not publicly answer any questions left in the comments. Instead, he addressed all questions via private message. If I was a gambling man, I’d say you’re seeing a glimpse of what the future holds for how websites will be sold on public marketplaces like Flippa. Sellers will become much more private about their business models and specifics and will only share the information with interested SERIOUS buyers. See auction here.
www.x4Bot.com – $15,000
BIDS: 9
Established: June 2010
Unique Visitors/Month: 3,434
Net Profit/Month: $10,602
Description: Forex business selling the x4Bot Forex robot.
Comments: The Forex niche is very hot and in demand right now. If the numbers claimed by the seller are real, this was a relatively new site that was making very good money – almost $11,000 in its first month. If you have an interest in investing and can wrap your hands around the technically complex Forex market, you may want to consider getting involved in this niche on some level – either as an affiliate, product creator, etc. See auction here.
www.Starcraft2.net – $15,000
BIDS: 5
Established: March 2002
Unique Visitors/Month: 3,000
Net Profit/Month: $100
Description: A forum about the Starcraft video game.
Comments: This forum was about the Starcraft 2 video game that will be released in the near future. The main selling point of this website was the established, “premium” domain. I have premium in quotes because some (i.e. ME) would question buying a domain with a trademark in it. The seller assured potential buyers that it would be “extremely unlikely” that there would be trademark issues with the domain. The seller did provide a credible argument to back up this statement but I’d still be nervous buying a domain at this price with a trademark in it. See auction here.
TYPES OF WEBSITES MOST WATCHED BY BUYERS
This metric provides a lot of insight on the website flipping market. These are the types of websites that buyers are watching. In other words, these are the types of websites that buyers are interested in buying today. As a potential seller, this is great information because if your website falls into any of these categories, be sure to tag them as such when you list them. And if you’re a short-term flipper, these are the types of websites you should be building for sale.
AdSense: 59 buyers watching
Ecommerce: 55 buyers watching
WordPress: 53 buyers watching
