Use These 7 Tags on Flippa For The Most Exposure

A while back I did a post and a video on how to use tags effectively when listing websites for sale on Flippa.com. For those of you new to Flippa, please read my previous post about the Flippa tagging system and watch the video in that post. In it I show how to find the best tags for your auction listings. In this post, I’m going to provide some historical data on the most popular tags used on Flippa.

I track a lot of data from Flippa.com and one of the things I’ve been doing is tracking the most popular tags watched by buyers from week-to-week. I expected the number of “watchers” to dramatically increase from week-to-week but that hasn’t happened. Let’s take a look at some historical data for the most popular tags and you’ll see what I mean.

Flippa Tags

While the number of watchers has slightly increased over the past couple months, the numbers have been fairly flat. Presumably, Flippa’s user base is growing and presumably their user base is becoming more educated on the nuisances of their marketplace (i.e. using their tagging system more effectively) so you would think these numbers would be dramatically bigger.

Take the tag, WordPress, for example. On April 27th there were 40 watchers of that tag. As of June 27th there were 46. Only six more watchers have been gained in the past two months? It doesn’t make sense to me.

These 7 Tags Are The Most Popular Among Buyers

Regardless of the number of watchers, one thing is for sure, these tags have been consistently the most popular among buyers from week-to-week. If you list a website for sale where any of these tags apply, be sure to use them for maximum exposure! As of now Flippa only allows 3 tags so be sure to choose the 3 most popular from the list that apply.

I knew that WordPress would be up there and ‘established’ too. I’m a little surprised that autoblogs are still so popular. I appreciate that they still sell there regularly though – most people are looking to make money without doing any work.

I’m surprised a tag like ‘profitable’ is not in the list.

      Kevin:

Ya, I was surprised too that autoblogs were so popular. “Profitable” would seem like an obvious tag to watch but the problem is, most sellers would never think of using that tag.

The whole tagging system at Flippa is a mess right now. If they implemented the system I suggested in my previous post, it would dramatically improve not only the tagging system, but the marketplace as a whole. Until then, you can’t put much stock in these numbers but they’re interesting to analyze from time-to-time nonetheless.
